From
the Editor
Every year, the Council
of Literary Magazines and Presses invites its members to New York
for a Literary Magazine Marathon Weekend. The festivities culminate
in the Literary Magazine Fair, where editors from more than a hundred
publications come to chew the fat with their colleagues, and peddle
their literary wares to a packed house of eager readers.
When failbetter.com first began attending
the Fair several years back, ours was one of a very few Web-based journals
present. But of late, the online contingent has grown by leaps and boundsat
the most recent Fair, which took place last month, more than a dozen
tables featured laptops displaying webzines, rather than the traditional
pile of print journals. And, we are pleased to report, our table was
fairly mobbed by readers and fellow editors alike, many of whom introduced
themselves by asking, "How did you get that wonderful story by
?"
or "Holy crap! How did you land that great interview with
?"
Who will our Fair friends be asking about next year?
More than likely, these names will be tripping off tongues left, right,
and center: Doctorow, Ames, Daitch, Shepard, Sherwood, Becker, Gottlieb,
Cunningham, Nicosia, Valladares, Balco, Stansbury. Check out our new
issue and you'll see why.
