The human and natural worlds collide and intermingle in my work. Trees, nests, water, and bubbles seethe with emotional and physical life, intimating an almost human cognition. Though diverse in form and subject, these images are linked by themes of transformation, freedom, and connection. They explore the ambiguity between negative and positive space, land and sky, the created and the natural.

Baited Breath

The BREATH PAINTINGS are made of water and breath, the essence of transparency and lightness. Bubbles of paint, blown with an assortment of handmade and store-bought wands, create the swirling, animated forms caught on paper. Colored pencil adds depth and color, while highlighting the artificiality of this invented cosmos. Titles for these works were borrowed from the poems of Diane Ackerman.
