John
Lloyd was
born in Kyoto Japan and lived there for 12 years (son of
missionaries). He received a BFA from Tufts University/Museum
School. His work has been shown in galleries in New York, Massachusetts,
Pennsylvania, Delaware, and in Finland.
As
a further biography on his life,
Lloyd adds, "My first grandiose failure was from when I was 12 to
14 years old when I attempted to write a massive epic on the scale of
J.R.R. Tolkein's Lord of the Rings. Since then I have failed as a
rock star, farmer, school bus driver and as a husband. Somehow through
all this I have managed to keep painting. The paintings have been
rejected by over 300 galleries, so today I am trying to get my work out
into the world by hanging my work up in coffee shops, bars, schools, and
any friendly wall I can find.

"The
subject of my painting keeps returning to the landscape and where
the human shows up in it. This may be partially due to living in a
large city where seeing a patch of green can feel like
experiencing a dazzling miracle. The natural world returns in
threshold places like the view from a rooftop, in vacant lots
where you might hear a sparrow singing or an animal that you dream
of at night. For humans, the most interesting interactions are the
city parks with its freeform temporary communities of Frisbee
players, dog walkers, picnickers and so on. I find myself
constantly drawn back to paint there, with each painting session
being full of unexpected choreography and stories."
